About WTF Is This?

So. WTF is WTF Is This?

WTF Is This is a UKNOVA radio show broadcast on Friday evenings at 7pm. You'll notice from the schedule at uknr.org that it follows the excellent Squage Party and immediately precedes the wonderful Wrinkly Rock. If you can't listen to
WTF Is This live, just click on the Home tab (above) and grab the podcast.

  • Squage Party is a radio show where Pat Squage plays party choons, with requests and dedications, to kick start the weekend! Live every Friday at 6pm (UK time) on UKNR and MixCloud (where you'll also find earlier shows).
  • Wrinkly Rock has been presented for the last 10 years by our 70s/80s/90s expert Clumpton. Don't miss it, it's an excellent show. In fact, make Friday night a UKNOVA Radio night!

The saying “There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met.” is attributed to William Butler Yeats an Irish poet who won the Nobel prize for Literature in 1923. We all have our own favourite songs, old friends if you like, but there are many tunes we haven't yet listened to. Wonderful new music is being created all the time, while over the years some music may have passed us by. Unless we listen to music we are unfamiliar with, we could be missing out on new favourites.

Along with many commercial radio stations and streams, our public service broadcaster (the BBC) has playlists which promote 'agreed' artists. With this sort of censorship, it's hard for promising new singers and bands to break through.

The tracks played on WTF Is This are mostly by unfamiliar underrated singers and groups, or those that were well known once but maybe a long time ago. That said, another reason for selection might be because the singer, group or song title has an idiosyncratic name, for example the group called The Hillbilly Moon Explosion featuring Mark "Sparky" Phillips or the song Showertime In The Slammer by The Decline.

My thanks to bobince, Pat, UKNR DJs, all regular listeners especially Titus, Anne & Chris.
